Job Summary:
- Responsible for developing and expanding the hotel’s business in the China market by building strong relationships with China-based travel agencies, tour operators, corporate clients, and other business partners. The Sales Manager will drive room revenue, group bookings, MICE business, and overall market share from China.
- Based in Kota Kinabalu and will actively develop relationships with China tour agents and travel trade partners to increase hotel room nights, group bookings, tour groups, packages, and overall revenue.
- Proficient in Mandarin, both spoken and written, and able to communicate effectively with Mandarin-speaking clients and business partners.
Responsibilities:
China Market Development
- Develop and implement sales strategies to increase hotel business from the China market.
- Identify new business opportunities and potential clients in China.
- Maintain strong relationships with China-based travel agents, tour operators, wholesalers, and DMCs.
- Promote the hotel’s rooms, packages, facilities, meetings, and events to the China market.
Sales & Revenue
- Achieve monthly and annual sales targets for the China market.
- Generate room nights, group bookings, FIT, GIT, MICE, and other revenue opportunities.
- Prepare quotations, proposals, contracts, and special packages for China clients.
- Negotiate rates and commercial agreements within the company’s approved guidelines.
Client Relationship Management
- Conduct regular sales calls, meetings, presentations, and business visits with key clients.
- Maintain good relationships with existing China accounts and develop new accounts.
- Handle client enquiries and follow up on sales leads promptly.
- Ensure customer feedback and market requirements are communicated to the relevant hotel departments.
Market Visits & Business Development
- Establish and maintain relationships with key tourism and travel industry partners.
- Monitor competitors, market trends, customer preferences, and pricing in the China market.
Digital & Promotional Activities
- Work closely with the Marketing team to develop promotional campaigns targeting Chinese customers.
- Support hotel promotions through appropriate Chinese-language platforms and travel channels.
- Coordinate familiarization trips, site inspections, sales events, and promotional activities for China partners.
Internal Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Reservations, Front Office, Revenue, F&B, Events, and Operations teams to ensure smooth handling of China groups and VIP clients.
- Ensure group requirements, rooming lists, special arrangements, and client requests are properly communicated and followed up.
Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly sales reports covering business generated from the China market.
- Monitor sales performance against targets and provide recommendations to management.
- Maintain accurate records of accounts, sales activities, business leads, and client contacts
Requirements:
- Diploma/Degree in Hotel Management, Tourism, Hospitality, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of hotel sales experience, preferably with exposure to the China market.
- Experience dealing with China travel agents, tour operators, DMCs, corporate clients, or MICE groups will be an advantage.
- Good in Mandarin and English, both written and spoken.
- Good knowledge of the China outbound tourism market and Sabah/Kota Kinabalu tourism industry.
- Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Target-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Existing contacts/network with China travel agents and tour operators will be an added advantage
